FOR OUR BELOVED SON CHASE
On the day that marks the official beginning of summer, June 21st Chase Livingston was born in Thomasville, GA in 1985. He was a typical toddler and full of life. As he grew he tried team sports such as baseball, football and speed skating, only to loose interest and look for something else. In 1996 we bought Chase a 1996 Kawasaki KX80 and began to take him to the Hog Pin Motocross track in Cairo, GA. Chase was given a fitting nickname by the parents and riders, “The Good Samaritan”. He earned the name because although only 11 himself, anytime a young rider would go down and Chase was in the area, he would lay his bike down and go help the other rider. I remember telling him before his first race that he couldn’t stop and help the other riders during the race.
Chase had finally found his sport. Chase loved Motocross and Motocross loved Chase. I remember him sleeping with his Fox boots, cuddling them, not wearing them. His first big race was at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, FL. Chase was never shy and made new friends wherever we went. We have pictures of him and James “Bubba” Stewart playing together, at the ripe old age of 11. He was always in the mood to ride and would nag his mom until she agreed to take him riding. In 1997 we purchased land in Grady County, GA and moved on the land and built Chase a track so he could practice everyday.
Over his short 8 year career, Chase participated in 6 Winter Olympic events at Gatorback. His most productive year was 2001, posting a 4th overall in Supercross at the Winter Olympics in the 250C class. We traveled to Texas for the Grand National Championship and Oklahoma for the Ponca City National, where he placed 8th in the 250C class. He got the hole shot in both 125 C mod motos but had bike trouble during the motos. Chase participated in several of the GPG Best of Georgia Series races posting no worse than 5th place with several 3rd and a 1st overall. He also raced at our monthly races at FasTrac Motocross Park in Cairo, GA, which is the track we own.
Over the next years and until his untimely death on Saturday, April 17, 2004, Chase helped out at our track and mostly just raced at our track in the 250B and then 250 Money class. He had a natural ability to operate a bull dozer and could listen to his music and move and shape dirt like a pro. He tended to want to make really tough jumps so we had to keep him rained in. Although Chase lived at the track he always was the last to stage at the starting gate after a couple of calls on the PA system. Chase was a very smooth rider and rarely made a mistake.
The most important thing was Chase had a servant’s heart. After his death we received calls and emails from young and old about stories of how Chase had helped them. He was very humble and yet admired by so many young riders. A candlelight vigil was held in Chase’s honor and over 400 of our great Motocross family attended. His number 96 was officially retired on June 5, 2004 at the inaugural race of the newly named Chase’s FasTrac Motocross Park. Chase will forever be missed but never forgotten.
